Did you know that Archidona Viaduct, on the Antequera-Granada HSRL, is the longest in the world without joints or track expansion devices on a High-Speed Raylway Line?
With its 3,150 m of continuous composite deck, typical spans of 50 m and two central spans of 65 m, a single fixed point in the center of the Viaduct, and joints and track expansion devices only in abutments, it represents the longest continuous deck in HSR thanks to track expansion devices with 1,200 mm travel.
The cross section is similar to that of the Arroyo las Piedras Viaduct, with the solution developed by IDEAM, S.A. in a composite twin girder section in a strict box-girder with double composite action in hogging areas and simple composite action in sagging areas, closing the torsion circuit with a discontinuous lower slab connected to the steel girders.
IDEAM, S.A. carried out the detailed design 13 years ago and provided technical assistance to the construction management for ADIF. The viaduct was divided into two sections executed by the joint ventures Dragados SA-TECSA and Grupo Azvi–Dragados SA-Tecsa.
